Tuner changelog
Every published release, newest first. Android TVs update themselves; the build number (1.0.428560) tells you exactly which one a TV is on: it's on the dashboard's App line.
1.0 · update — 2026-10-27
- Movies: a movie's info shows its real picture ("1080p · H.265 · 4.2 Mbps · 5.1", from the provider) and the provider's other copies of the same film, sharpest first, with "a sharper one is here" when there is. Pick one to switch.
- Movies pause less: Android TVs and tablets now keep up to 3 minutes of a movie loaded ahead instead of 50 seconds, and after a pause wait for 10 seconds in hand before carrying on (Samsung too). Each pause is logged with how long it lasted, for remote help.
- Remote help can look up a TV's movies and each copy's quality (the dashboard's tools).
- Samsung TVs build their guide in half the time with Tuner's guide service (444 s instead of 867 s on a 2020 Q70).
- Dashboard invites can go by email: add their email and press "Email … with Gmail" (or "Other email app"), and Gmail opens with the invite written (link, setup code, a short note), ready to send from your address.
- Mac: clicking the picture closes the channel list (like a tap on tablets).
- Mac: a click anywhere outside the open menu closes it (as a tap already did on tablets).
- Live TV in the menu while you're already watching now opens the channel list (it used to just close the menu).
- Movies and Series: the category list scrolls on its own, so every category can be reached with a finger on tablets (the lower ones were stuck out of reach); the posters scroll separately and the sort buttons stay at the top.
- Tuner for Mac can be downloaded: the invite page (and tuner-tv.pages.dev/download) has a Mac choice with a Download button and the steps, including the one-time "Open Anyway" for Apple's warning. Macs from 2020 on (Apple M1 or newer). The Mac version shows a note with a Download button when there's a newer one. Each network can download it 5 times a day.
- Sports opens on Today, already picked. Hold OK on a sport (Today, Soccer, NHL) or a league to move it: ← → then OK. The order is kept on that TV, and Sports opens on whichever sport is first.
- Invites: the dashboard's "New invite" gives a link (tuner-tv.pages.dev/invite/123456) to send someone. Their page greets them by name, shows their setup code, and has the steps for their device (Android TV / Google TV, Fire TV, Android phone or tablet; it opens the right one by itself). Without a code, tuner-tv.pages.dev/download has the same steps.
- Sports → Today: every game today from every league (soccer and NHL) in one list, live ones first, then the rest by start time, then today's finished scores, plus highlights for the leagues playing today. No more opening league after league.
- Tuner's help address is now https://tuner-tv.pages.dev (the app download is https://tuner-tv.pages.dev/get). Every TV moves to it by itself at its next start; the old address keeps working, so nothing breaks in between.
- Tuner's own TV guide service: every free guide source is now collected once a day on Tuner's side, trimmed to what TVs show (3 hours back, 4 days ahead) and served from Tuner's help server in a compact form. A TV downloads about a fifth as much (the big US guide: 1.7 MB instead of 6.5 MB, and no 77 MB file to unpack) and spends about 40% less work building its guide, with exactly the same channels matched. If a copy is missing or more than a day and a half old, the TV reads the original source like before.
- The guide copies are refreshed every morning automatically (4 am Pacific) and kept in their own storage on the help server, apart from the app's own files.
- Channel list in folders: the first list is just the places (★ Favorites, 📺 24/7, 🏟️ Events, 🇺🇸 USA, 🇨🇦 Canada, 🇬🇧 UK, 🇵🇹 Portugal…); open one for its categories (Sports, News, Hockey…), then the channels. Back or Left goes up a level, and the list opens where you last were.
- 🏟️ Events: a 📅 Today folder with today's games, games sorted soonest first, and games that finished long ago left out (they used to clutter the lists for weeks). A game's own name decides its sport ("Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – Cricket" is no longer filed under Fights & PPV because its provider section says PPV).
- More event feeds recognised: "[EVENT-ONLY]", "[LIVE-EVENT]", "TNT Sports Extra 3", "Boxing Feed 1", "Bleacher Report NBA 7", "… vs … // UK Mon 21 Apr".
- TV guide: "Sky Sports PL" is Sky Sports Premier League (the "PL" was being read as Poland), and SuperSport channels get South Africa's listings (SS Premier League, La Liga, Football, Variety, Action, Events).
Tested against a second provider (7,686 channels, different naming) and made Tuner fit it:
- Playlists can be hidden instead of removed: Hide keeps the login and channels saved but out of sight (channels, movies, guide); Show brings them back. Removing asks in Tuner's own box now, not the browser's "The page at file:// says…".
- Countries read correctly from names like "USA - PBS (KRCB) CA" and "UK - 5 USA": a country label at the start wins, and on a channel the provider files under the USA a trailing CA/IN means California/Indiana, not Canada/India.
- Divider rows ("##### UK DAZN SPORTS #####") join their section instead of making dozens of empty-looking groups.
- One-game feeds described in their name ("(FLSP 094) | volleyball: Roosevelt vs UW_Parkside (2026-10-27 20:00)") go to 🏟️ Events, not regular categories.
- Sports: event channels that say what they're showing only count when they name this game (both teams for "X vs Y"); a "PT - " or "UK - " in front of a name no longer hides Sport TV or Sky; a league's own feeds ("MLS Sporting Kansas City") only show for that league's games.
- Logos: a logo server that doesn't answer within 4 seconds falls back to the guide's logo or initials (no more empty dark squares), and initials skip a "USA - " prefix.
- Touch: the "can't play" screen has a Menu button.
- TSN, Sportsnet, RDS, TVA Sports and OneSoccer always count as Canadian, whichever section the provider files them in (they were landing in USA | Sports or International | Sports).
- Playback on the second provider, tested on the tablet: Sky Sports Main Event, LaLiga, Sport TV 1, AMC and TSN 1 all started in 1.6–3.0 s with no stalls. Its channel names don't say the real quality (a "UHD" one was 1080p, an "SD" one 1080p, an "FHD" one 720p): Tuner's measured label shows the truth.
1.0 · update — 2026-10-25
- Channel logos: when the provider's logo is missing or broken (about half of the provider's channels), Tuner uses the logo from the TV guide instead, and when there's none at all it shows the channel's initials on a tile (TSN1, DV) instead of a blank square. Dark logos get a faint light edge so they show on the dark background. Each TV re-matches its guide once after this update to pick the logos up (a few minutes in the background).
- Hold OK on a channel in the channel list to add it to your favourites (or take it out); a quick press still plays it. A note at the bottom of the list says what happened.
- Movies and series without a poster get one: Tuner looks the title up on Wikipedia (through your help relay, which remembers every answer so each title is only looked up once for all your TVs). On Danny's list, 3,407 of 5,562 movies came with no picture; about 8 in 10 of those now find theirs. It fills in quietly in the background and steps aside while you're using the remote. It starts about a minute after Tuner opens, from the movie list already saved on the TV, so the posters are there before anyone opens Movies.
- Search shows one row per kind (Channels, On TV, Movies, Series) that you scroll sideways, instead of long lists down the page. Copies of the same channel (FHD, HD, SD) show as one card that plays the sharpest.
- Sports: evening games in North America were missing (tonight's Canucks game, for one). Tuner asked for each day's schedule by UTC date, and by evening in Canada that's already tomorrow. It now includes them.
- Sports: after picking a channel from a match (or a highlight show), Back takes you straight back to that match's channels to try another, instead of all the way out.
- Sports: each channel in a match's list shows its picture size (360p, 720p, 1080p…), sharpest first. Tested or watched channels show the real size, read from the video itself; the rest show what the channel's name claims, marked ~.
- New TVs set up with a code now hide religious, shopping, Classic TV and cricket channels from the free channel list straight away (USA | Religious and USA | Classic TV used to show until Tuner's next restart). Favourites copied from another TV also find their channels right away.
- Tablets: Tuner now runs on Android tablets (tested on a Galaxy Tab A9+), full screen in landscape. Tap the picture for buttons (Menu, Channels, ▲ ▼, Favourite, Fix sound, Smooth mode, Guide), swipe up or down to change channel, swipe right for the channel list, tap outside a list or the menu to close it. In the guide, swipe to look around and tap a programme twice to watch. Wording on every screen talks about tapping instead of remote buttons.
- Android boxes: Fix sound and the automatic sound watch now really work there. Android's player reports its sound tracks and how loud the sound is, so Tuner notices 5 seconds of silence and refreshes just the sound or switches track. (Before this, Fix sound on Android only said it couldn't refresh the sound, and the sound watch didn't run.) Sound delay is a Mac setting only; Android plays through its own player.
- A long channel name in the info bar ends in "…" instead of running into the programme details.
- Sports: Canadian Premier League and Saudi Pro League added, each with its own TV channels (TSN and OneSoccer for the CPL, SSC for Saudi).
- Sports → ▶ Highlights: the highlight shows coming up on your channels for each league you follow (Premier League Review, Primeira Liga: Resumo da Jornada, CPL Week in Review…), one press to tune in, plus each league's own channels. Looked up only when you open it.
- Sports updates the moment fresh results arrive (it used to show older saved results for a while). During a game, live scores refresh every 30 seconds by asking only for that league's games today (one small request), and only while the Sports page is open, so it never takes anything away from watching.
- Sports opens with nothing picked: choose Soccer or NHL, then the leagues you want, so nothing loads until you ask for it.
- Highlights are part of each league now: pick a league and its highlight shows sit above its games, each as a card like a match. OK on one shows the channels it's on. Only what's on now or in the next 3 hours is listed; if nothing is, the next one coming up. (The row of the league's own channels under it is gone; match cards still name them.)
- Sound watch (Android boxes and Mac): if a channel's sound stops for 5 seconds while the picture keeps playing, Tuner refreshes just the sound (or switches to the channel's other sound track); the picture carries on. If it's still silent it says so, including when the channel's Dolby sound can't play on that device.
- Fix sound, on every TV: press → twice while watching. The Samsung re-picks the sound track (or moves to the next one when the channel has several) without touching the picture.
- Still no sound after that? Press → once more and the channel is tuned again.
- On-screen instructions match the remote: no more "press the yellow button" or letter keys on TVs (the remotes don't have them). Reporting a problem is a button in the channel's Details panel, and Settings lists the remote's own buttons.
- Remote navigation: Down from Soccer goes to the leagues, Down onto a wide card no longer skips it, and closing a panel puts the highlight back where you were.
- Up from the first card in Sports goes back to the league you picked (it used to land on whichever league sat above the card's middle).
- Samsung (2020 and older TVs): spacing between buttons, league tiles and cards was missing because the TV's browser is too old for it. It's now added another way, so the blue highlight no longer runs into the next tile.
- Settings → Sound delay (Android boxes and Mac): holds the sound back up to a second, for sound that runs ahead of the picture.
- The SSC sports channels (SSC 1–7, which carry the Saudi Pro League) are shown in a new "🌍 World | Sports" group; the rest of that region stays hidden. Match cards now name the league's own channels (SSC, Sport TV, OneSoccer) right on the card.
- TVs and boxes only work with a setup code: the code screen can't be skipped, and playlists can't be added by hand, only through setup codes or the dashboard. (The Mac app is unchanged.)
- Security: the relay's reachability check only works for your own TVs, at most 5 new TVs a day can register from one internet address, and setup codes (which carry a login) expire a day after first use.
- Factory reset from the dashboard (type the TV's name to confirm): erases playlists, logins, favourites, guide and settings, restarts on the setup-code screen, and keeps the TV on your dashboard.
- When the TV turns off, Tuner closes after a minute and starts fresh next time, so a TV box left on doesn't keep streaming to a dark screen and holding the account's connection. Android boxes notice the TV's HDMI link dropping (and close at once if the box goes to sleep); on the Samsung, Tuner closes after a minute off screen.
- A small "Updating TV guide · 9 of 42" badge in the top-right corner whenever the guide is being rebuilt, so a slower moment has an explanation.
- Menus stay quick while the TV guide is being rebuilt: on the 2020 Samsung a press of Down now takes about 0.03 s instead of up to several seconds. The guide work pauses while you're pressing buttons and takes small steps otherwise.
1.0 — 2026-10-25
The first numbered release: Tuner as it runs on the Samsung TV, Android TVs and boxes (Shield, Fire TV, Hisense) and the Mac.
Watching
- Live TV with channels sorted into flagged groups ("🇺🇸 USA | Sports", "🇵🇹 Portugal | News") and a 🏟️ Events section for game feeds.
- Countries other than the US, Canada, UK, India and Portugal start out hidden, and so do non-sports UK, shopping, religious, Classic TV and cricket channels. The Channels page brings any group back.
- Favourites, in your own order, at the top of the channel list.
- 📺 24/7 channels made from the movie and series library, plus the provider's own 24/7 loops.
- Back while watching opens the channel list on the current channel; hold Back for 2 seconds to exit.
- Sports page with today's games and the channels that carry them, including Liga Portugal.
TV guide
- Every channel has a guide row: real listings wherever any source publishes them, and a plain description ("Live camera: Nazaré", "local community programming") where none exists.
- Better matching: renamed channels (MGM+, Paramount Network, FanDuel regionals), East/West feeds, local stations by call sign, Indian channels, worldwide channels.
- TVs re-match their whole guide the first time they start after matching improves.
Setting up and helping
- New TVs: install with the Downloader code 4293240, type the 6-digit setup code, done. The code can copy favourites and hidden groups from another TV.
- "Can this device run Tuner?" check: in Settings, on the code screen, from the dashboard, and on a public page at /check.
- Remote help dashboard: each TV's health, build and internet connection; view the screen, use a virtual remote, tune channels, edit favourites, rename, run checks.
- Messages on screen that stay until you clear them (info, warning, outage), to every TV or one.
- Simple menu for TVs that only need watching.
- Android TVs update themselves (one Install press); the dashboard flags TVs with an update waiting.
Reliability
- When the provider is blocked or down, Tuner says so in plain words, keeps the free channels playing, keeps the playlist and retries every 10 minutes, and announces when the channels are back.
- A TV that's turned off or sent Home stops its stream, so the account's one connection is free for another TV.
- No background checks while someone else is using the account; the daily channel check is off.
- Channel lists load with a progress bar and up to 2 minutes for slow providers.
